In honor of the centennial of the 1922 Week of Modern Art, the Museu Afro Brasil presented four exhibitions curated by Emanoel Araújo. Among them, “The Return of the SPAM Party” by Lasar Segall.
The show featured drawings by Lasar Segall for the set design of the 2nd dance of the Sociedade Pró-Arte Moderna (SPAM) with the purpose of rethinking carnival practice, the search for national identity, and São Paulo’s modernist scenario. The projection, produced by Estúdio Preto e Branco, used drawings made by Lasar Segall for the set design of the SPAM party in the 1930s.
